What Gamers Can Expect From Batman: Arkham Origins
Hardcore Batfans will know that Bruce Wayne hasn’t always been a crime fighter extraordinaire. After all, everyone needs to cut their teeth somehow…
It’s the scenario Warner Bros. Games Montreal is pinning its hopes of success on for the third game in the Arkham Series.
Arkham Origins focuses on Wayne’s early years as Batman. Before he got his wisdom and self-assurance, Batman was a cocky rough diamond that needed polishing.

Arkham Origins is the story of Batman’s humbling and the coming together of billionaire socialite and caped crusader. A $50million bounty is on Batman’s head – that’s enough to make anyone grow up.
Set five years before the events of Arkham Asylum a new masked menace has managed to seriously pee off powerful underworld crime lord Black Mask. To make an example of the new Bat on the block, Black Mask hires eight of the world’s most deadly assassins to snuff him out on Christmas Eve.
Batman faces off against a who’s who of killers after his blood including Electrocutioner, Deathstroke, Bane, Deadshot, and more. Fans will also be pleased to know that Joker and Penguin also make appearances throughout Origins.
A gargantuan Gotham
Batman is finally unleashed onto a huge open-world Gotham for Arkham Origins which is split into Old and New Gotham areas. Old Gotham is a slum surrounded by an industrial dock (where Penguin’s casino ship happens to be moored).
Modern New Gotham across the bridge gives Batman perfect gliding opportunities through the beautiful snowy Christmas setting. No time for Bats to relax, though – as well as fighting criminals Batman has to avoid a corrupt police department also trying to claim the bounty.
An entertaining multiplayer mode
A significant difference between Origins and the previous Rocksteady titles is that Montreal’s effort includes a deep multiplayer mode (developed by Brink’s Splash Damage) with a number of skull-cracking scenarios to play through with friends.
Multiplayer elements revealed so far include gang warfare missions – similar to predator missions – between Joker, Bane, and Batman and Robin. Multiplayer also takes place in different settings such as the infamous Blackgate Prison and others.
Not only has the Montreal studio built on the excellent foundations laid by Rocksteady’s previous Arkham games, the team has also managed to expand on them with new tweaks and additions that fans are sure to love.
New gadgets for instance improve and complement Batman’s legendary flowing combat system. In Batman’s utility belt this time around are old favourites such as the Batarang, Batclaw, Explosive Gel, and more.
New to the game though are the Remote Claw, Shock Gloves to block electrical attacks, a Concussion Detonator to fell large groups, and much more.
Oh, and throw in Batman’s personal jet the Batwing to let players fast travel to certain areas of the map for added mobility and you have what looks to be another incredible Batman game.
